Grant Deadlines for Digitization and Preservation

Eligible Organizations: town and county records offices, libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, and colleges and universities

At Micrographics, the care and preservation of your documents is our utmost concern. To that end, we’d like to inform you of two National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant programs to assist eligible organizations preserve the records in their care.

The first grant, Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions, has a deadline of May 2, 2017. This grant is designed to help organizations such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, town and county records offices, and colleges and universities—improve their ability to preserve and care for their significant records and materials.

Funds from this grant may be used for:

  • General preservation assessments

  • Disaster preparedness and response plans

  • Planning for improving storage

  • Purchase of preservation supplies

  • Education for staff on preservation

The second grant, Humanities Collections and Reference Resources, has a deadline of July 20, 2017. This grant is designed to help organizations such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, town and county records offices, and colleges and universities— is designed to extend the life of historical documents and make their intellectual content widely accessible, through the use of digital technology.

Funds from this grant may be used for:

  • Digitizing collections

  • Providing conservation treatment for collections, leading to enhanced access

  • preserving and improving access to born-digital sources, including the updating of existing digital resources

  • developing databases, virtual collections, other digital resources, or project-specific tools, to codify information on a subject or to provide integrated access to selected humanities materials
